Perplex Me Not

Posted: 29 Aug 2013 08:30 AM PDT

Our internet service has been confounding this week. On and off again 25 times in the last hour, for example. Of course, we have several deadlines this week. Of course, we cannot get the systems to cooperate. Of course. It is a miniscule issue in light of life and death struggles in our world today…and yet, this miniscule struggle has me ready to throw my beloved computer across the room. Sigh

Posted: 10 Aug 2013 01:08 PM PDT

I love my Kindle.  No longer are we concerned with 'the weight of all the books' when packing to return to Uganda. Thanks to Amazon and my Kindle, I now carry a plethora of books weightlessly around the world.  So. I'm not sure what prompted me in that Target aisle at the end of our furlough.  I know I couldn't think straight, with all the lists and the decisions and the clamoring for

<!--StartFragment--> I am a classic firstborn. Overachiever. Hyper-responsible. Bossy. Sigh I'm feeling the pull today. My Dad is having surgery in Lubbock TX. He has suffered with arthritic back pain for many years and we are all SO relieved that there is a surgery that can relieve his pain. We have every confidence and hope that this procedure will bless him and

Encamped Around Us

Posted: 25 Jul 2013 01:04 AM PDT

<!--StartFragment--> A series of incidents over the last few months *We were nearly asleep when we heard the shattering of glass in the distance. Jeff and I, awake and alert, listened intently. The female Ugandan shrill (an alarm that signals thieves) brought Jeff out of bed quickly. Into clothes, weapon in hand he goes outside to be of what help he can. Our neighbors lost an office

Once Upon a Matatu

<!--StartFragment--> We had been married six WHOLE months when we landed as eager new missionaries in Nairobi, Kenya. We were in Kenya to be mentored by long time missionaries, to survey various mission points and to allow my mind and heart to adjust to this very foreign, very new world. Jeff, being the more experienced in all things East Africa, had conceived a plan. The Plan, if you

Unlikely

<!--StartFragment--> Jeff is a delightful story teller. A master really. I've always admired it. He told me stories from the time I met him and I was as taken by them as the crowds who love his stories now. But those stories aren't what convinced me. It was that moment when I said all those things. Things I hadn't spoken in years because I was trying so hard to 'overcome' all my '
